What cylinder is this?

Can anyone tell me what size cylinder this is?It is about 33-33.5" tall from the bottom to the top of the valve.  It says on the label Oxygen.  So I assume it is no mix....it is empty right now. What is it worth if I sold it?Hobart Handler 187Bainbridge bandsawMakita chop sawHarbor Freight 4.5" grinder
Reply:Its an 80 cu ft gas bottle if its 7" diameter.  Try taking it to your LWS, don't unload it until you discuss it with them.  Perhaps for a small charge they will fill it or exchange it.   How old is the inspection stamped on it?David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:i just bought a new one today 80cu/ft oxy it cost $211.00 filled
Reply:It depends on your LWS.  If the inspection date is expired they may charge you for a static test to re certify it.  They may just trade you.     I don't know your LWS. DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
ReplyWhat cylinder is this?ook at the valve, it should have a CGA designation CGAXXX which will be numbers.  You can then look it up or google it.If it was Oxygen then that's what it will be.  If it's inert gas then you could use it for nitrogen, helium, argon, etc.  the valve is the key.also check the latest date on it; if it's over 10 years needs to be hydro tested for about 12 bucks or so.Good tank, should  be worth 80 to 120 bucks or so.jbman45Century 230A AC/DCLongevity 200 Multifunction MofsetLongevity 200PI Multifunction IGBTVictor Oxy/Weld&Cut5HP 2 stage compressorTractor; tools and 40  years of collecting fine tools.

Reply:Swap out the valve for a CGA 580 (Inert gas) Argon, Helium, C25.New valve can generally be found on e-bay for around $20.Have the bottle hydro'd.  Your LWS should be able to handle it for about $15.You've got an 80 cu ft bottle for your C25 for about $35.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:That sure looks like an 80CF tank. The valve on it is indeed for oxygen, and is a cga-540.If that tank is out of cert (and from your timeline, it certainly is), then it will need to be hydro-tested.  Take it to your LWS.  You need to hand the tank over to be hydro-ed (that usually runs around $15), and I normally just swap cylinders, rather than wait the time it takes to fill, and you can't just sit and wait for a hydro test (it gets sent out).If they're willing to swap tanks, you may be able to just swap it for the same size cylinder, but with a CGA-580, filled with C25, for the cost of the gas, and the hydro, and get away with not buying a valve.
Reply:Well, I called NexAir and the guy said I can just bring the bottle, pay for a test and he would give me a C25 bottle.I asked what happens if the test comes back and the tank is bad and he said I wouldn't have to worry about that.  Just pay for the test and C25 fill on a new bottle.Hobart Handler 187Bainbridge bandsawMakita chop sawHarbor Freight 4.5" grinder
Reply:That tank isn't worth anything!  Give me your address and I will come and get it to help you get it out of the way! In fact, I will only charge you $10 for "scrap removal".
Reply:Thats a good deal Matt, in the part of Canada I live in you cannot own a bottle of any considerable size
Reply:I took the cylinder up to NexAir today.  The last inspection on the tank was in 1986 and the first one listed was 1946..hah  So it was an old bottle. The guy did not charge me to test the tank and swapped out the bottle no problems.  But the C25 fill was $47?  Seems expensive compared to the prices some of you listed.   It was $38 for the fill, plus tax, plus a $5 hazmat fee..Hobart Handler 187Bainbridge bandsawMakita chop sawHarbor Freight 4.5" grinder
