I need a company name. I teach science workshops on the weekend and have used some of the stuff I have built in the class. Several teachers have purchased items from me, the problem is these purchase are out of their own pockets and they do NOT get reimbursed thus sales are poor. It has been suggested that if I have a company name schools would be more likely to reimburse me. So fire away with ideas.It does not have to be a "sciency" name. It would be different, catchy and still near the front of the alphabet.Are the products all science related, are they all welded, do they work and can you post any pictures/explanations here?
Reply:Ken I too am leaning to the boring side. I do 3 different workshops. Each is all day long and meet netween 10-14 times a year. After a few classes everyone just calls me reber or reebs. So last night I thought I might as well go with what people know. If in a year or two post workshop they might recall the name easier.Does this make sense

Reply:Here's some very inexpert advice, depending on what extent you're actually going to put a business together for the sake of facilitating these orders. In what I do (writing), I have to have a loan-out corporation which is technically what my employer hires -- they then subcontract me for my writing services. The corporation hires me and pays the employer portion of my taxes (and brings me some advantages, tax-wise) based on that. My corporation has to be registered with the state and it has to maintain a board with at least one member who isn't me. I'm the president. My lawyer is technically an officer of the corp. Now, here's where my knowledge gets sketchy, since it's not something I would conceivably do. But I think it's common practice to not burden that initial corporation with stuff that could (for instance) get it sued, or have it go belly-up, or that sort of thing. So people with a legal corporation will fill out some kind of DBA (Doing Business As) form with a second company name, this one more specific to the task they're doing at that time. "Robert Reber Enterprises" DBA 'Don't Fear the Reeber" or DBA "Reeb'z Welding & Fabrication" or whatever. I don't know if any of this would apply to you at all -- for tax, or liability, or legal-incorporation reasons. But if it does, and you legally incorporate, there might be some advantage to having a broad general name and then a DBA-filed name that's more specific to lecturing, or fabricating, or whatever.Last edited by Jack Olsen; 05-26-2009 at 06:50 PM.
