Building up a undercarriage

I was wondering if any one here has done any building up on rollers on a dozer undercarriage. I have been wanting to try and see how good i could get with building up some myself. I had thought i could make a vat to hold the roller partially submerged will i welded on it to offset over heating. I had planned on setting this up and running a wire feed on it. Does anyone have a recomendation on type of wire. I dont plan on machining afterwards, just let the roller wear back smooth.
Reply:I like McKay's Vertiwear600.  Welds very smooth for a hardfacing wire, and can be run vertical up without any problem, if you decide to weld out of position.  100% CO2 gas or 75/25.  Less spatter with mixed gas.  Comes in 0.045 or 1/16" diameters.  You will need a CV power supply with some guts.  http://www.hobartbrothers.com/pdf/da...rtiWear600.pdfIf you're using a smaller 110V machine, take a look at Armorwear.  It's designed to run on smaller 110/220 power sources.  Abrasion resistance is less, but still better than any standard welding wire.  I've not run this one personally, but was recommended to me by someone I work with and trust.http://www.hobartbrothers.com/pdf/da.../ArmorWear.pdfBenson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Seems to me your just about right on track. If you look at Stoody's web site they may have what your asking about. I know years ago they did caue thats where I got the idea. I used what ever wire they recmended  because if you want to buildup or hardsuface somthing Stoody has somthing for it
