had to go pick up this trailer the other day.  The oak runner that supports the body busted and the whole thing came down while coming out of the field with a load of corn.  I had to separate the body off of the running gear to get them loaded and back to the shop, but here is the pics.loaded up and ready to take back to the shop.............I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Here's the body.  It didn't sustain too much damage, but will need to have some repair. These two show the oak runner that broke.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Oh man that does not look good Good Luck!Me!
Reply:Well the cheapest route was to get a used running gear.  I can get them pretty cheap from the local drying trailer manufacturer because of a conversion they are doing.  this running gear is for a 14ft crop dryer but will work for what we are doing.Sine this is made for a 14" trailer I pulled the center bolt and slide the ends together and shortened to 8' between the bolsters.now the length is right time to add some frame rails.  No oak this time.....Frame rails fitted and tacked ready for welding.....I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:started welding the frame rails, and will try to get the body mounted tomorrow so that I can start repairing it.  I'll update again tomorrow afternoon......Sorry about the quality of the weld pics.  I'll get around to buying a decent camera one day.  All welds were up hill using .035 70s-6 with 75/25  around 18Volts 240 wire speed.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Wow...wish I had that kind of farmer around here. These guys would call that a parts wagon...lol.looks good, shouldn't see that one again for a while.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:The kind w/ 5th wheel type steering are a lot stronger. Worst you can do is bend the tongue. Tell the owner not to turn it sharp on a steep hillside while fully loaded. Sometimes they'll roll over or twist the frame bad. Since it's only 8' between bolsters,it shouldn't be a problem but he needs to be aware of this unless he's already had experience w/ these kind of tlrs.  We pull these kind w/ anhydrous tanks on them in the fields behind the anhydrous applicator. On steep sidehills the rear tires will be tracking 2' further downhill than the front tires and the front tires will be tracking a foot off the centerline of the applicator. Of course they never get turned sharp because this is all pulled by a 4WD articulated tractor w/ duals all the way around.  That's some nice lookin' work, keep it up!!             Sorry for a long post,I'll shut up now,                                                              MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Yes, that one is wrecked!!  This will be interesting with the steel going back on instead of wood. You'll get to see what the locals like and don't like about it right off and hear what they have to say. Good work.

Reply:Joe, you are right.  It's flat as a pancake around here unless you get on the river  or creek bottoms.  Yea, these guys have been farming for 30+ years and have experience with most any type of ag trailer.  The running gear I am using is actually from a 14' peanut wagon.  We have theses type trailers everywhere down here.  Peerless is running conversions turning 14'  to 21' wagons.  Same running gear just the rear end is changed a bit to accommodate tandems.  So you can pick these up pretty cheap.  The 14' trailer is good for about 6-8 tons, and the 21 footers fully loaded with peanuts will weigh average 10-15 tons.  What really blows peoples mind is when they find out that we pull peanut wagons with a 1/2 or 3/4ton pickup mostly.  The average person can't comprehend that amount of weight hooked to a pickup.  Peanut season kicks off in a couple weeks so I'll have some interesting pics to show soon.  Most will center around these types of trailers....  ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......

Reply:You get all the fun jobs.. ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Yeah, one of the guys on one of the tractor forums took a flatbed wagon like that fully loaded w/ hay down a steep hill w/ an 8/n Ford tractor and things got pretty hairy when he started trying to slow it down. Bear in mind a farm tractor only has brakes on the rear axle.                           MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Replyidn't get much done today, wound up in the woods on a tree cutter repair.  Here is the body mounted on the running gear.had to remove the front two cross members and replace.  I figure  1/4x4 angle will be a little better than this bent 11ga sheet metal.Cross members replaced, and frame rails cut and capped.A few hours tomorrow, and I can finish bolting down the body, and patching sheet metal.  I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:This is what happens when farmers drink and harvest.  It's a good thing it was just grain and not cattle.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
