Hey - I am going to be relocating from Ohio to the Pacific Northwest. I am starting to look for welding jobs and was wondering if anybody had any leads they could give me. I am open to anything from Redding, CA north to Juneau, AK and east to Boise, ID.Thanks,Mel

Reply:Where exactly in the Northwest are you moving? What is your skill level regarding different processes, certs, etc..? Are you former military? I think coming out this way is a good move. We have great wages to cost of living ratio.UA Local 598
Reply:I am flexible on location. Basically, I am willing to relocate to anywhere in the area I mentioned (with a few exceptions) if a good job is there.I don't have any certs of my own, I have always gotten them through whatever workplace required them. I am proficient in solid wire Mig, tubular wire Mig, mild steel, aluminum, and stainless Tig, and stick welding. I am not former military. I am not particularly strong in fabrication skills - I prefer just welding. I am a graduate of Hobart Institute with 5yrs actual work experience.

ook into the pipe trades at UA.org. Washington is a good state to work in union pipe trades. The scale on the check is 38 to 46 (not including fringes and pensions). My local is 44 an hour. Apply and get on the list. We are currently training 12 welder apprentices in a 16 week program. At the end of 16 weeks, if they pass xray they will be able to work and make full scale. Beginning apprentices usually start at 45% which is about19 or 20 an hour. Because of your experience and training at an actual institution, you may be able to get a direct entry into our local (598) or Seattle (32) or Western Washington (26). Call those halls and ask to speak with the training coordinator. That person can set you on track.UA Local 598
Reply:Elaborate a little more on what your actual experience is and what type of welding trade you want to go into in that area.. being that, there is zillions of welding applications....might help you get an answer..
