Don't you know that these guys would really flip if they had a Trailblazer back then!!!Mike Evans, a welder, at the rip tracks at Proviso yard of the Chicago and Northwest Railway Company. Reply:Nice pictures. I love the history of welding.Modern technology is certainly amazing, and these guys would be blown away for sure...With that said, those pictures could easily be from last week.Welding is archaic, and not changed too much in many aspects...And just one of the things that make it neat.Last edited by jsm11; 02-04-2011 at 01:26 PM.1981 Lincoln SA 200Miller Trailblazer 302gMiller 211 Mig Welder w/ AutosetI'm learning to stick metal together

Reply:Imagine if one of those guys saw robotic or even wire feed processes!Edit some research shows that wire feed was first used on non ferous meatls in the 40s so they were likely aware of such technologyLast edited by metalmeltr; 02-04-2011 at 06:50 PM.

Reply:Originally Posted by denrepYeah they would have flipped, because Mr. Evans, on the rip track, might have said: "Now why don't you just make the first cut for me with that newfangled rig and then I'll take over." The rip track by the way is the end of the line, where rolling stock is cut for scrap. And Mr. Unknown Weldor, posing for this shot at Combustion Engineering, might have said: "Now just exactly what do you want soldered-up with this toy?"Look at the hose on his stinger!! I wonder how long  a Trailblazer could keep that line full of electrons?Believe it or not, Pappy was not as ill-equipped as some may think.Metalmeltr - For production work, wire was up and running by 1921, so I'd guess that some prototypes were around in ‘16-'18 maybe? And I'm wondering if we haven't gone too far.Do I really need complicated and problem-prone circuitry and a computer on my welder, battery charger, stove, furnace, car, water-heater, garage door, you-name-it??Good Luck
Reply:WB, I worked for a company that was so cheap they would have had the TP sensor tied into the time clock so they could dock time for takin a dump.  Too funny about the Methane sensor.  What happens when the wind aint got no odor?  Could be very messy by the end of the day...BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
