I bought an expensive "high back" chair that doesn't quite have a high enough back for my 6'5" frame. If it were about 3 inches higher, I think it would be perfect.I thought maybe the back could be cut where shown in the picture, and then a couple of similar sized 3" steel bars could be welded in. Is there any reason this wouldn't work? I don't know much about welding, but this seems possible. How difficult would this be for an average welder? I am going to call some places this week. I am in Dallas if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks for the help....and BTW, How much would something Ike this cost? Attached Images

Replyet's see now..2 cuts..2 added pieces..4 welds..I'd do it for 30$ but I work cheeeeeeeep....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Hard to say from the pic but it looks like there is an adjustment by that lever on the back that would allow it to go up maybe 2" ?Also keep in mind that the body center of gravity will change from the chairs "normal" design for the center of gravity with the given base leg lengths. If the chair back has a  lean back option, with the modification, you could be looking up instead of ahead.
Reply:I'm in the Dallas area.  Send me a PM with your email and I will see what I can do.

Reply:Keep in mind that making it higher also gives you more leverage to break something. I tend to lean back alot when I sit, and have retired a number of chairs by breaking something because of that...
