Well it was 4 feet long when it came in..Going in a "ro Street" Chebby pick up...Now it's 12" from cap to cap..I did not shorten it just assemble and weld..I get all the fun jobs......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:How did you keep everything flush and lined up?
Reply:Experience! It was heat shrunk in by .005 so it has to be RIGHT the first time..The yoke has a step in it so just install to the step and make sure the shaft caps line up on the bench..I have done hundreds of these but only a handfull of Aluminum ones.....zap!Last edited by zapster; 07-26-2011 at 08:58 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:don't leave much room for driveshaft loop.  lol       neatPound to fit, paint to match
Reply:never mind the drive shaft, I'm drooling over the positioner...

Reply:Real purty cup walk cap.You do nice work man!E.
Reply:Isn't there supposed to be some drive shaft between the caps?Seriously though I am not a super hipo car guy (although I do have a big block mopar) but when I see a shaft that short I have to wonder about flexing. The shaft if longer would have a certain amount of twist and unwrap (i would think) under extreme acceleration. But if the shaft  is that short would that really stress the ends(and other parts) because the shaft itself can't absorb the stress of a hard launch by absorbing the torsional twisting stress? Just makes me think is all . Any thoughts?Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. So YES you can own too many tools.
Reply:Think of a drag car on the street with a 4 link..There is no real suspension left now is there? The tranny is basically 15 inches or so from the rear end..Not much room for flexy....But what is there is minimal......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Ahhhh driveshafts, if I only knew then what I know now......grumble, grumble......Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:That most likely is a drive shaft for a rear engine dragster with a 4 link rear end.  I've raced dragsters for years and the best dragster I've had was a Yancer built.---No good deed goes unpunished---
Reply:Marc's dragster had a coupler between the trans and the rear end..Solid rear no suspension.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Zap , your tig welds are chi chi's y cerveza man, how many years have you got behind the tig torch ? Reply:Was that the sound of Zap volunteering to build the drive shafts for my jeep?
Reply:I used to work for a company that made sportscars which used aluminum driveshafts.  I could not find a driveshaft service in the Atlanta area that could shorten a Ford driveshaft and have it run true enough to not vibrate in those cars.  I actually spent time at 2 different shops watching them do the work and was stunned at the run-out they'd allow - both got in the .060" range and said that was great since Dana allows .100"!  Well, hanging off the end of a clapped out 13" Enco lathe at our shop I could shorten one, get the runout within .005", and have a smooth running driveshaft without even balancing it!  I have done a bunch over the years, and if you get them very true with nice fits they usually don't even need balancing.Anyway, I could not believe that I could not find a shop in the Atlanta are that could do a decent job, but in the end we started buying them from a company in Michigan that does a bunch for the racing industry - and had no more issues.http://tubularfab.com/gal2/main.php?g2_itemId=473
