Fold Up welding table

Hey y'all,This is my idea for a welding table that I can fold up when I'm not using. I hope that you will be able to see the picture clearly. I think it should turn out really nice. Can anyone think of any other ideas to make it better? I have round legs so that the seat can move around, and I'm adding a Lazy-Susan to it to make it more comfortable. I was thinking about adding a square tubing hitch(like on a car) to allow me to be able to mount a vise to it, but I think I'm pushing the weight limits of it already, this thing is going to be really hard to lift up into position.  If I do it out of 3/8" steel, it'll already weigh over 130+ lbs(guessing). Should I beef it up to a .5 inch top? Or should I just add angle iron to the bottom outside edge to give it strength? Any thoughts on a better way to lift it other than by hand? I was thinking a rope pulley, But I don't want rope around where I'm welding because it'll burn. I guess I could use wire, but can't get an image in my head. Also (lol) this is my first welding project. I'll have help from a friend who knows more, but it will mostly be me. He will probably be making the most important welds. I'm using a Lincoln 140 Mig welder with 75/25 mix gas.  Any thoughts?Nick Attached Images
Reply:Ends up this picture is harder to see on this site, hopefully y'all will be able to understand it. The seat will be attached by a round tube that slides into a slightly larger round tube. It will be secured with pins to hold it in place. I made it to where I can move the seat back and forth as much as I like. And to be able to twist it sideways during storage.
Reply:first consern is the weight being attached to what kind of wall and how it's being attached. Second concern is the lifting into working position/setting the legs. and fold of the table. This is a lot of weight to be lifting then holding in place with one hand while the other is getting the legs set right. I understand limited space, but why does the seat need to be attached? couldn't you just get a folding stool? As for an assisted lifting system. an electric overhead winch is how I'd go. have a removable hook hooked to a D ring on the end of the table. that way the cable is out of the way both when welding and when the table is folded. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Miller has one for $200 roughly.  same concept. just sayin.www.thefusionsolution.com
Reply:Well,  as for supporting it,  it will be attached to the framing of my metal building.  The metal isn't the thickest,  but I think if I put a larger back plate to attach it to,  it will have a large enough surface area to hold the weight without pulling too hard on the wall. Do you have a link to the similar table that Miller sells?  If it's a similar price,  I may go ahead and build it.  Part of the fun.  First table and all.  The stool was just a cool idea that i had.  A stool might be a better idea though.  Was just trying to save space.  Nick
Reply:Though an electric winch will add a lot of cost,  but would be a fun addition.  I'll have to check prices.
Reply:http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...ns/arcstation/It's a portable unit, I didn't realize yours was attached the to wall, so this is different.www.thefusionsolution.com
Reply:http://www.harborfreight.com/110-vol...rol-40765.htmlnext size up is $149 and will do 880 lbs.is it going to be stored folding up, or folding down on the wall?I've seen folding stools that fold down to less than the thickness of your legs. could weld on a couple tabs on the bottom of the table for it to attach too. (or just hook it to the hoist hook)There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
