You guys and your fancy weldling   Some of us aren't qualified to do real welding jobs so we have to do small little repairs. A friend shot the top round bar of his mobile, if you can call something this heavy mobile, target in two. Seems you set this target a mile away, then use your fancy gun to shoot it. Anyway, he was trying to dial in his scope and during the process, he shot the round bar at the top in half, plus damaged it in another spot or two. No fixing that bent metal, so I just replaced the round bar with new. This is the actual target,,,,, approximately 1 inch think,,, and HEAVY.....These two large washers keep target in center....Anyway, I'm sure it doesn't llok like much, but some of us are just happy whenever we are not welding on scrap metal Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal

Reply:Wow!  That is one fine target!  Many years ago, about 1964 or 1965 a fellow I knew had a .55 boyse rifle.  This is a BIG bolt action rifle, with a bipod.  The cartridge was .50 Machine Gun, opened to .55 and had a belt on it.The guy would loan us the rifle if we paid for the ammo.  No problems there.  We'd set up at 1000 yards and shoot 55 gal drums. It was great fun.  I have a photo of me firing a shot.  There is a bit of dust under the bipod legs and my toes as I was shooting prone.Hearing protection?  What hearing protection?  We didn't need no stinking hearing protection!  I got up from the shot and noticed my ears were ringing.  They are still ringing!  But what a gun!!!A great target like that would have been very welcome! Thanks
Reply:Speaking of amazing rifles I recently found out about the Anzio 20mm rifle: http://www.anzioironworks.com/MAG-FED-20MM-RIFLE.htmIt shoots the 20mm Vulcan round!  Must have a class 3 license unfortunately.  Sure would be fun to shoot one someday. Reply:I have never seen this target in use or the gun used to shoot at target, I just know he has to set up a minimum of 1,000 yards?? (is this correct?) Range Requirement.

Reply:The pendulums I used to supply our range were cold rolled bar stock, 6, 9, 12 od and an average 3 inches thick.   The softer bar stock would splatter - absorbing most of the rounds energy.  They change them when they either break in half or double in diameter whichever comes first.BTW.  Anzio Ironworks builds some magnificent rifles - I have had great results with their .50 bmg takedown comp in the fcss matches.  the 20mm is even more fun to play with - one of our members had one for a bit ~ biggest drawback is 585 grains of powder and a 3 dollar projo EVERY time you pull the trigger.  the guy that bought it from him was going to cast and plate his own, gets it down to under a dollar a projo plus powder. When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives.

Replyast month I went shooting with my police and army SF friends we shot at some steel targets with an AR47, an SKS, and a .308 (plus ~20 handguns for short range targets).  The 1/2" steel plate is like swiss cheese from so many people shooting them... It was my first time shooting anything other than a 9mm so I was amazed at the steel plates..miller syncrowave 250hobart handler 140home made 400 amp engine driven in progress...

Reply:Originally Posted by M.RedHawkSame here.  I've seen some videos from there...sure looks like fun.  If you're from Kentucky, you should definitely do it!  There's lots of guys that go that have rentals you can shoot.  I've always wanted to fire an M1917A1 (water cooled).  It is what my mom's bf was on back in WW2.
Reply:Originally Posted by little JeepI have never personally been to Knob Creek. I have buddies that are out at Knob Creek on a regular basis and of course for the big machine gun shoot. I have one buddy that drives his coach up from GA and literally just camps at Knob Creek for the entire machine gun event. I wheel the Little Jeep on a semi regular basis at Turkey Bay OHV Park in Land Between the Lakes, so I have a Jeeper friend or two in pa-duka (grin).

Reply:Knob Creek is amazing and totally worth a drive to check it out.  Stay for the night shoot, it's flat out amazing.  We ended up watching the show near a guy who had a Civil War era cannon and another guy who had a sweet 20mm cannon in the back of his pick up truck.  Everyone loads as much incendiaries as possible and goes to town on things that go boom.  It's freakin saweeet.  GE mini guns were there by the dozens when I went too.
Reply:Originally Posted by little JeepUnless something changes, it will be next year before I go back to LBL, but maybe when I do, we can hook up and I'll take you out on the trails and stand the Little Jeep on one end or the otherBTW, you ever eat at the Wood Shed in Hop Town?
Reply:I know we've gotten off the welding topic but Knob Creek is a blast.  It's coming up again in October.  I heard the bridge to get in is messed up right now, but I'm sure they will do something about that before the next shoot.  If you can only go once, make sure you are there on Saturday night.  You can youtube some videos on it but it doesn't do it justice.  When the fuel jugs blow up, the thump can be felt and the heat is amazing.  You can even rent some of the guns including a minigun.  Definitely bring your wallet though.Rene
Reply:At our range in Florida they have taken angle iron and welded it in such a fashion that the angle faces the shooter so the frame tends to deflect the bullet. But we also have heavily bermed backstops with high "eyebrows" to capture errant shots/projectiles.Just a thought.Lincoln MP 210  Lincoln 216-2Hobart Stickmate LX AC-DC“Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice.
