Building a shop

I will be moving to a house that has no shop.I had a ideal. I have a 30foot long semi trailer. My ideal was to seat it on the ground and build  a inclosed  leanto on one side of it.I want to have a shop that has a closed of place to have my machine tools in.I plan on living hear for along time.I dont work on big things. Is this a good ideal or shoud i sale trailer and build somthing.
Reply:It sounds cool, but i think it would get constrictive width wise.
Reply:My guess is you will eventually want something bigger/better but will already have money tied into the lean to.  I would start with a fresh plan and build what you want 10-20 years from now.
Reply:These are good points width of trailer is ok for machine tool I have them in one now and have used them some my leanto would be wider to get a vehicle in to work on. But if i build leanto it will be a big part of a new building. One thing that concerns me what would it look like.
Reply:I work out of a 40ft cargo container.  Yeah, it's too small, but you can have one delivered and dropped off the back of the truck.  You go from "no shop" to "shop" in about 20 minutes.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:Heres what I've seen. a singlewide under a full roof. when the finances where there, the single wide was pulled out and walls were put up and a house built under the full roof. for 5 yrs or so, it looked odd. though the trailer had a really nice front porch. then when they built the house, it looked like any other prefab house. except it didn't have the vertical split boar on the ends. This would work for your idea. place your container, build full roof and enclose the half that is not where the container is. then remove container and enclose the other half. the benefit of this is the walls don't have to go in until you've got the money to do so. you'll have a large open work area until the walls are enclosed, and a lockable area to hold the machine tools until you've got the whole thing enclosed. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:I may do somethink like that. A buddy of mine bout a house with a trailer in it we sawed it up and took it out bit by bit a standerd door roof to axels.
Reply:I don't think I'd enjoy cutting up a container... I'd say park it on the side with the 16' door so you can just pull it out when you're done using it as a shop. There are no problems. Reply:true, it may cost some money to bring in the right equipment to pull the container out. but it can be done. With out the fire potential to the new structure of cutting the container up. Not to mention the loss of the potential sale of the container, or reuse of said container.I wouldn't have expected an F-150 to move it. but the proper sized tow truck, heavy machinery, ext. would do the job nicely. might be able to broker a deal to get the price of removal reduced by giving them the container.Personally, I'd make the side of the shop where the container is tall enough to be able to lift the container, and just back a trailer in under it. that way, once the container is gone, you've got a large enough door to pull what ever you want in to work on it.There are no problems. Reply:My Ideal was to have container or in my case van trailer perminit part of my shop as tool room/ machine shop. All ready have trailer with obshin to sell trailer if I did not like it.It seam to defet perpuse to build roof over trailer.I may just sell trailer and us cash on building.
Reply:roof over trailer/container means you don't have to worry about the container/trailer leaking. and if it's a shipping container plently of storage room (dependent on ceiling height/roof pitch/ roof support system) on top. You'd have a lockable room for all your tools once it's all enclosed too.Have you looked at the cost to build the size shop you want? do it right the first time or pay three times as much doing it twice (or more). And have you looked at what people are getting for that type of trailer in your area? There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:if you have the room i would keep the trailer and use it as storage of fluids, steel and such to keep that stuff out of your shop.  you could build say a 30x20 shop and set the trailer behind it and put a double door connecting them..or you could do a post frame... set the trailer down and build the post frame around it.. use the trailer as storage for fluids and steel and such, you could also have a light storage area on top of the trailer.you could use one end for storage and put a door to the other half and have a small office or a dedicated area for an electronics/electrical work shop...  that would be pretty nice..  you can never have too much room..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:I would like to keep trailer thier but it would use up a lot of my yard to have trailer and seprat shop. I am going to look at 40feet long trusses today 3 of them to build 20=40. I had a 30=30 before. need to look at yard to see how it would work
