Gents--I am not sure if it's my eye sight going or something else. At 50-60 amps even with a No. 9 shade I'm having trouble seeing. Even higher amps has same similar effect. I have a SpeedGlas auto darking lens.  Thought it had gone Tango Uniform on me, bought another less expensive at my LWS same deal. Don't seem to have the same problem with MIG or Stick. Any of you have a similar experience? In advance thanks.
Reply:Yep - I clamp a light where I weld, put in a 2.0 cheater, then I'm ok. This for tig steel and mig.Tig aluminum or stick rods 1/8" and up, I see fine.Problem started about age 40. Now at age 43 I just crank up lights and magnification till I can see Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Thanks gents, I have a 1.5 cheater in safety glasses and I'll give it a try.  Will let you know tomorrow.  I appreciate the input, thanks!
Reply:I have bookmarked this and will return soon more about it thank you.
Reply:Had the same problem.  46 now.  The cheater solved it, as well as something to keep light from getting in behind my helmet.Your pupils will contract to accommodate and see objects that are close when your natural lens will no longer do so.  So this constriction lets less light in.  So you can't see crap. Funny thing is, as said above, never have problem with aluminum or stick.  With stick, head is further from puddle.  Aluminum just brighter.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Replyave--great read from that post you mentioned.  I am off to try several things like working with my contacts and cheaters, trying the stop of backlight with a hood, different focal distances, and not using my auto darling glasses (I had assumed that the lens filter would automatically take care and it wouldn't register the UV).  Really bad news on the blue eye thing, I have a pair. Not much to do about that.  Thanks for the link, it was much appreciated and damn informative.

Reply:For natural tinted glass I know No.11 is just too dark for my Lincoln 135 mig and AC stick up to 175 amp, I cant see anything, I see a fuzzy green blob for the arc and as far as the puddle, forget about it. So I use the No.9 in natural tinted glass. But on the other hand with my auto darning hem the No.11 setting is perfect for my mig running at full power and arc welder up to 175 amps.If I happen to be night welding I will tend to run my auto darkening helm at 12 or 13.If the sun is right over head I will mig with the No. 10 setting sometimes.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder

Replyooks like you solved your own problem. I would have suggested replacing the cover lenses and buying some cheap over the counter reading glasses- works for me. I prolong the cover lens's life by polishing with pledge furniture polish (keeps smoke and debris easy to remove.Martin MC Weld TechAWS-CWIAWS-CWEwww.linkedin.com/pub/martin-cramer/20/b36/940/
