We've been working on expanding the production at the shop and I'm leaving for the beach today so we decided to give a new guy a chance.He's 23 or 24 and fresh out of one of the tech schools.We asked if he had tools, his reply was yes everything needed to fix anything that comes in.He shows up Friday with a blue point starter kit that his parents paid 2x what it's worth. Basically a small tool cart with just the cheap basics.After he unloaded it out of his accura with a fart can I decided to check his abilities with a simple diagnostic on a chevrolet c1500 2004 model. It was a no start condition3 hours later he has the ecm pulled up and all the protective sheathing removed...wires pulled everywhere and probe holes in most.I had to stop him then, thankfully he hadn't cut or disconnected anything besides the ecm mount.I cycled the ignition switch and slapped the fuel tank with a soft face dead blow and what do you know...fired upThis is today's professional...Can't wait to get back from vacation and see what else happensBlue stock- shopmaster, a/bp330, maxstar 150stl, maxstar 210, hf251, Tbolt ac/dc, mm 135Red stock-ranger 8, weldanpower 150, idealarc 250 ac/dcEsab plasma, Victor OA set, Air products ac/dc 400 ampIt's me flipped in snow..doughnut fail

Reply:I have a lot of guys bitching about about young guy not knowing much .My reply usually is when you first started did you know everything like you do now? I learn something almost every day.
Reply:Trade schools are great but diagnostic skills come with experience.Young guys can be in a hurry to tear into something and show how goodthey are. Takes a few humbling experiences to get them to slow downand check all the simpler things first. I say this from my own experience when I first started working in factories. I'd have a schematic  and meter out ,panels open and be tracking down an "electrical problem "and eventually trace the problem to an emergency stop button that had been pressed.Machine down 2 hours because a stop button needed to be pulled out.
