2010 I put myself through tig school as a necessity to be able to tig. After school I bought a Dynasty 200 and welded everything and material that wasn't nailed down. Had good jobs come through the last years that gave me great real world experience. That stuff has gone and here the economy is (well you know). I have an auto repair shop and I may not need to tig for weeks or a month. If I had to fire up the torch tomorrow I wouldn't sweat it. but I am OCD and want to always be at the best I can be. How do you stay sharp? I know practice makes perfect but coupons gets old after a while. I follow the forums and get Jody's vids (weldingtipsandtricks.com) to keep up. Just looking for the experts thoughts as I am a DUMMY.

Reply:"Air weld" everything you see. When eating lunch, "air weld" the cup to the table-table to the wall. Any time you see a "joint" and you have some free time do this. I like to use a pencil as a "torch" and just dab with the other hand like you are holding filler. Position yourself like you are really welding and hold the point of the pencil close to the "joint" just like holding an arc. DON'T DIP THE TUNGSTEN If you need to practice walking the cup- Do just that, walk your drink (can/cup) across the table. Reply:At lunch today, I was practicing on some scrap 0.016" wall sections of tubing. Man, that takes a lot of concentration for me. My ususal stuff is about twice as thick. Find stuff that challenges you.
