I am just curious here and am probably starting something, but can anyone tell me the benefits of the T-300 electrode holder? I guess it would probably stay cooler than the normal kind. I am sure not in a good situation to be using one, but I know I am missing something.SA-250 TMDSquarewave 200Thunderbolt AC/DC1951 G.E. welder
Reply:Im not a big fan of the t-300. I like the heavy Tweco 400 amp holder if I am running structural steel. Lets say a 24" I beam I have to splice together, or running a bunch of flat welding on very thick material with 5/32 electrodes. I have melted so many electrode holders in my hand it is ridiculous. Now if I am welding pipe I prefer the smaller tweco 250 amp which has a closer grip handle to the spring action handle. If you look at both models the spring action handle is further away. With the 400 amp one I will hold the actual handle for the spring action to weld once the grip handle gets too hot haha.I really want to check out some old vintage holders. I was told by a couple older welders they made a really nice one that stayed cooler on the grip handle when even running jet rods for a while. but it was very heavy.Last edited by AndrewDavenport89; 04-29-2015 at 08:36 AM.
Reply:I can sure tell you that down inside a dirt bucket ("pull type scraper, dirt pan, whatever you would like to call it) you about cannot do anything but babysit the T-300. I know that being inside a steel box is not a friendly environment for that type holder, I was just wonder of the untold advantages that of this type that I do not have the foresight to see. I did find myself welding in two different places several times when I was in a tighter spot. The bead on the "surprise" might have looked better!SA-250 TMDSquarewave 200Thunderbolt AC/DC1951 G.E. welder
Reply:Oh I see what your saying. It will keep arcing off if you touch it to anything because it has no covering of clamp end where the electrode goes. I think its mainly for pipeline welding. I had one offshore they sent and everytime I would lay it on something it would strike off because I forgot there is no covering on it. I threw it away after it arced off so much it was garbage.
