Anyone know what it would cost to replace the control board in a Hypertherm 1000? Found one for sale but the owner thinks the board is going out. Not sure of the symptoms, just what I was told.ThanksGraysOrnamentalIron.com
Reply:Could be a ribbon cable problem or if old enough, a resister problem on the power pcb.Both can give intermittent operation problems. very fixable if the price is right.
Reply:The circuit board in these units either works or doesn't work. There is no degradation as I would think you mean by "the board is going out". If there is some type of intermittent issue (misfiring, low power, occasional error lights) then it is another issue that is probably easy to solve with some troubleshooting.....Hypertherm's tech service group is very good at helping you determine where the issue may be. If the board is bad...usually you will see signs of failure....such as burned components on the board...as this board handles high voltage and 60 amps of power. A board replacement is probably in the $800+ range with labor. If the owner thinks the board is bad...offer $200 for it, plan on spending $800+ to fix it...and you will have a great plasma cutter for $1000.If the issue is low power, bad cutting....that is 99% of the time related to air flow restrictions , torch issues, or consumables. Misfiring would almost always be torch or consumables. Error lights? Almost always torch, air flow or consumables.Jim Colt  Hypertherm
