18, east texas, 6 yrs of welding experience, welder helper for 4 yrs (not pipeline), know how to do everything. If yall need a helper just let me know. Huntsville, Tx. or Abilene, Tx area prefered work location
Reply:Go to rigwelder.comSent from my iPhone using TapatalkLong after the price is forgotten, the quality will remain. Both of my Poppy's 1954 Short Hoods -Third generation to weld with it and teaching a fourthSA 2## - Bought and sold more than I can remember or care to list, 8 in the shop right now
Reply:With low oil prices there are a lot of welders and welders helpers out of work. It is very competitive, while not impossible it will be a challenge to find work.
Reply:First off don't tell them your 18 and "know how to do everything" or you'll never get a job, and if you post this at Rig Welder you will get your first real pipeline education.

Reply:And don't tell them your 18 with 6 years of welding experience. You'd be in for a real education if you got a job by telling folks that.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:So instead of giving proper advice( etiquette) on how to look for a welding job, to a younger person that wants to work and not just get handouts from his  parents, you just mock him on the way hes going about it....and then wonder where all the crappy attitudes come from the younger generation....Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:TX drop-out age is 17. I'm hoping you went to high school as that would be helpful to getting a job. I'm sure you're saying 6 years as in "I was 12 helping the 'old man' with home projects." This is not considered job experience, and, as has been mentioned a few times here, will illicit gales of laughter with any potential employers. It was hard when I was young to have to be the low man on the totem pole but there is honor in earning respect, not demanding it. Good luck young man.

Reply:Originally Posted by SuperArcActually, I took the advice that was given to him as a "soft landing" answer for the young lad.  Because in the real world and in person, someone might just have punched him in the nose after he asked his question.
Reply:You better have a "thick skin" if you want to pipeline........ I've been told just pulling into the job by the Weld Forman....." I'm telling you right now if you got a problem with being yelled at, we just as well get it out of the way and have it out now" ( I'm 6'-6" and just shy of 300lbs.) Also had a hoe operator get on me about having to dig a wider ditch for me at a tie in...... There are no shortage of guys who will call you out on B.S. ........Glad I only do it when my shop business is slow..... Hard life IMHO ....not for everyone, especially the dainty , easily offended , B.S.ers , slackers, druggies, etc....

Reply:I'm with rkb on this. Cowboy is just a teenager and actually wants to work instead of doing video games in the basement. Very commendable. Can't someone say, "OK, here's what you need to do" instead of cutting on him for the way he tried? I'd do it but welding is my hobby not my line of work so I wouldn't know what to tell him. "Welder Helperost on rigwelder.com" was good - now tell him how he should say it don't just criticize his first attempt. BTW, "you need a thick skin" is also good advice.Edit:Cowboy, this got hashed over somewhat in your pipeliner thread. Pretty good thread actually. You're a hard worker, impressive. Kudos that you keep trying to get advice and get hired. Keep on, eventually you'll get what you need.Last edited by JD1; 01-06-2016 at 11:19 AM.

ReplyWelder Helperude, when I was your age I took a job doing tower re-furb and travelled around for 5 years, had a blast. I scrubbed towers, did the **** work, and when some ******* was too hungover to come to work, I got to weld. Got a job in a climate controlled shop through that and now I'm very happy with my day to day. Don't get tunnel vision on the pipeline thing, its good $ (I hear) but theres some cool **** to weld out there. Use an internet search engine to search for "seeking welders apprentice in east texas" (or whatever town you want to work in) and see what happens!

Reply:Not knowing cowboy at all either and just reading his post, I agree, SuperArc.
Reply:SuperArc, from his pipelining thread and other posts I took it that he was a worker, not a gamer. Although you can't believe everything someone posts so he might be just a talker AND a gamer. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. You're absolutely right about the hands on blue collar environment. The new guy will likely catch a load of crap anyway until he proves that he can do good work and isn't a jerk. As has been said, coming in as a know-it-all teenager no matter how many years of welding won't set well. However, I didn't take his comment of "know how to do everything" as arrogant, just an awkward enthusiastic way of trying to get his point across that he does have experience. His posts in different threads seem to me to be eager and enthusiastic not arrogant but maybe I'm guilty of trying to see the good side instead of just taking the words at face value. At face value, they're a problem.Cowboy97, I applauded your willingness to advertise that you want to work. But you need to suck it up and be a little humble first and foremost. Dont go around projecting that you "know it all," because it will only close more doors than open them.
