Check out the new-to-me machines. I think they're a good pick up judging from what everyone here says. With a new coat of powdercoat they should be quite spiffy. While I'm on the subject, has anyone ever heard of the rectifier going bad in these? From what I'm told you can only weld with AC power. If so, do I have to find a new rectifier or can I fix the existing one? One last thing, I was told that these are meant to run off of three-phase but everything I've read states that these are single phase machines. Any guidance helps.-MarcI can't get the pictures to work from my phone... Basically I picked up two idealarc 250s for the grand total of 0 dollars.
Reply:The 250 idealarcs will run on both single phase and three phase power. It's just a matter of wiring/jumper in correct setting.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

ReplySW, Thank you for clearing that up. I'll search around for the diodes.
Reply:Can't beat the price.
Reply:They are single phase only. But If your shop has 3 phase power you just use 1 phase of the three phase power. Changing the diodes are not a big problem, unless you have an older welder. The older welder used a stack of parallel diodes soldered to the heat sink. With a lot of tinkering. The current style will just fit. will have to drill holes.
Reply:They are older style for sure (round top, tombstone style.) Someone converted to the newer style diodes in another thread and stated that he purchased them off of eBay versus buying them from Lincoln. Does anyone know what type or part number I would need to convert this old gal over?By the way... Thank you all for your posts and your help. Unfortunately my knowledge of electricity is limited at best so I may be asking you guys a lot more questions.-Marc Leonard
