Hello,I am not really clear if the  Powermax 30 Air is a drag tip design, i really like that feature.If not, i guess i will be going with the Powermax 30XPThanks
Reply:You can drag any plasma cutter (either exposed nozzle like the 30Air, or shielded like the 30xp) operating at less than about 35 amps directly on the material....as the power level is low enough so that any double arcing (from nozzle to material) is minimal. So....yes, you can drag the Powermax30Air nozzle (there is no part called a tip) directly on the material being cut.The shield technology is not really necessary for drag cutting on the 30XP....however it does provide more power as the shield and nozzle takes advantage of Hypertherms patented "Conical Flow Technology" that increases arc energy density using secondary air flow that is guided by the shape of the nozzle and the shield. This effectively provides more cutting power.Because the 30Air has an onboard compressor.....with limited air flow capability (in order to use less power)...the shield technology could not be used on that system.If you are choosing between these two products:-The 30 air does not require a compressor, however it will cut slower than the 30XP on all materials...as it has to share cutting power with poer requirements for the compressor.-The 30XP is the best choice if you already have an air compressor....more power, lower price.Jim Colt  Hypertherm
Reply:Hey Jim,Thanks for the response,  yes, i do have a compressor,  so probably, the wise choice, would be the 30XP, i just liked the idea, of a, all in one cutter..I also like the idea, of the lower cost of the 30 XP, as trying to buy new tools, on a retired NJ Firefighters pension, can be hard.Thanks again, Eric
