Hi everyone. As I said several weeks ago, I inherited a “non working” weldanpower 150 from my uncle. He said it had been sitting around for several years and he hadn’t had time to work on it. He believed the issue was a fuel pump and that the rest of it should work. (It has a Koehler engine) I read some of the threads and did some diagnostics and found that the fuel pump did work, the carb was shot, and it was getting zero spark. Based on that I did some “upgrades”. It has a new carb, fuel line, fuel filter, and has been converted to a battery/coil spark because the magneto/coil was shot. The engine now starts, but I was getting nothing at the panel. I checked the rings and cleaned them up a bit then I tested the flashing diode and noticed it was open both ways, (thanks for the info in other threads) so I flashed the + brush off the battery and got some juice, but not enough to really wind up a small grinder I had plugged in. Is it possible that I need to completely disconnect all the wires to the magneto as it might be robbing power and grounding out, and should I run it awhile with the battery flash to re establish the magnets? If I replace the diode what do I wire to it instead of the magneto? Having a lot of fun with this so far, and really appreciate info I have found on threads prior to this. Also, how do I add my rusty dusty parts pics?

Reply:I am not sure why it doesn't work but that would be a good part timer utility machine as it's dc.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:That is a possible outcome, but I’m having fun with the process so I’m going to keep tinkering away at it. As I read other threads I’m trying ideas and learning as I go. One of the things I’m learning though is that parts are hard to find. 😆 I think I’m going to replace the flashing diode if I can find one. And I have to test the capacitors after I read the thread where I saw someone explaining the process. I might also replace the rectifier, unless I can find a way to test it and it’s good. Another concern I have is wether or not there’s any actual battery recharging going on. Once I trace the wires out and see what’s coming off the recharging circuit board going to the battery I should be able to find out. If not, I’m guessing that input to that board probably should be coming from the magneto that is shot. Might have to replace the starter with a starter generator. If that’s possible. I might be having way to much fun with this. 😆
Reply:Exciter flashing circuit for KOHLER is apparently no longer available for the Weldanpower150 AC. I found that mine only produces power when the engine exciter wire is disconnected and the rotor excited with two flashlight batteries. Since mine is electric start I will wire in a 12v DC to 3v 3 amp DC “Buck” converter as a Workaround. I will also replace the “STOP”  switch with a single throw double pole switch to control both ignition and exciter. NB: mine is a Canadian assembled machine, faceplate, plugins and welding lead terminals are different than any I’ve seen online.
