i went today to pick up this 1956 short hood , the motor is locked up , but the older gentleman said it should free up , as he left it out in the weather for about a year without a cap over the exhaust pipe , bought it for $500.  he also has a running 1946 short hood that hes gonna dig out of the barn and sell that one also for $500. heres some pics of the one that i just picked up

Reply:no ,crank only , but it does have the plate covering the hole for the starter , if i ever had to put one in

Reply:had some free time tonight to start tearing the 56 apart, looks like it was hardly used , no ridge wear on the exciter armature or the main armature , took the head off , some rust in a few of the cylinders, also motor still locked up , filled up the cylinders with all kinds off stuff to free them up , we'll let it sit for a few weeks and see what happens, , i picked up a 1962 redface blue dial the other day , some parts missing on it , cant seem to find the code on the barrel , doesnt look like it was ever stamped
Reply:Allright! I've been looking for one of those RED and Blue in the face welders myself. Probably has lots of paint over the numbers or rust, which I have almost wire wheeled the numbers right off if I wasn't paying attention. Reply:the code on the tag is 4816, maybe later in the week i'll sand more of it down to see if a number appears
Reply:i finally got to sanding down the paint to look for the code on the barrel , the number is 5604, which  makes it a 65 or 66, cant tell if the barrel or the face plate was changed , oh well , put it aside and get to it whenever ,

Reply:so do you think the face plate was changed? its a red face blue dial plate, hard to tell what was changed , the face plate or the motor and barrel , im probably just gonna take what i need off of it and part the rest out
Reply:By the looks of it, the face plate looks original with the way the numbers are stamped. You could pull the faceplate off and see if the original grey paint is still there. If it does have the original paint, then the generator has for sure been changed out. Look at the mounting flange bolts to see if they have had a socket on them, that would tell you something. It's possible that the control panel could have been swapped out from the original red/blue face machine and mounted on a redface frame.
