Hi everyone first post here, google searches lead me to here. Anyways I have a Hobart champ 2060 welder that started giving me troubles this morning. The welder has 1200hrs on it and has lead a very hard life. I was welding this morning on 3/16 Steel with a 7018 1/8 rods at around 100amps, finished a bead and went to start a new one when the engine quit instantly on striking a arc. Checked everything over on the engine and it will run forever until a arc is struck. Generator still works fine. I switched to some 1/8 steel and can get the arc to stay if I feather it along but the engine bogs right down and it acts like the amperage is maxed, just melts the metal away almost like a cutting rod.Anything to check or anyone know what the problem may be?
Reply:Go to Hobart website and print out a manual, it has a trouble shoot section. Check simple things brushes and slip rings.
