This post is of my latest project - a NEMA 56 Motor Adapter for my Rockwell Delta 6x48 Belt Sander. This belt sander was originally equipped with a 3Ø motor. The mounting slots on the donor 1Ø motor didnot line up with the original grey motor bracket, so this adapter was made to suit. Below is link to my album for this project. Reply:For what it's worth, the adapter consists of (2) 2"x2"x1/8" angle irons (found in my neighbor's yard they had some holes in them, which I plug welded and re-drilled) and 8"x8"x1/8" platewhich I had cut and hand-filed to size and checked against a Master Vernier height gauge, which I also used for layout work. I used my '53(?) Delta-Milwaukee 24" scrollsaw to cut the positioning slots in the plate as well as the angle irons. I used my friend's Hobart Handler 135 welder for the welding phase. I have some experience welding but certainly nothing to boast about. Primarily odds and ends and classic car work. Also, I hadn't welded in at least 5+ yearsHere are two picsI think my beads on this project were too thick and piled on a bit high. I am assuming this was due to wire feed being set a bit too fast for the time needed to heat up the steel. As a result, the beads sit high on top of the joint. Penetration was "ok" but I think I wasted more wire than necessary. That's my theory, anyway. I know they are lousy looking welds. Do they qualify for the butt ugly welds thread? Your thoughts and opinions welcomed.
