My question is do I have to change the taps to switch from 110/220? As you can tell the motor was changed, but it runs well. It's a little bit louder than the harbor freight one I had awhile back, but for $100 I don't care.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Not sure what your asking. If the motor is wired 220 and you want 110 or vice versa , yes you have to change the wiring hookup. All the info is on your motor tag.

Reply:Just curiosity, but why do you want 220V? I have the same saw and 110V runs it fine on all materials and thicknesses.ChrisAuction Addict

Reply:For that small a motor not really. Will use about half the electricity. Nice band saw, wore one out and picked up a larger one.

Reply:It doesn't call for 110 or 220. The nameplate clearly says 115/230. Motors sold in the United States are supposed to tolerate a variation of 10% plus or minus. 207 through 253 or half that will work. Lower than nameplate generates more internal heat, 10% more generates dramatically less internal heat.An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:Some split phase motors use a starting winding at 115 or 230 volts. It isn't connected long enough to overheat. On 230 it'll start quicker, with more torque. An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:For a hundred bucks you can't go wrong!  The motor alone goes for about $350 bucks.
Reply:It is the same casting and stand without the funky wheels, as the HF. Difference is the color, not trying to burst anyones ballon, but it is what it is...Magazines have issues, everything else has problems

The same saw from HF is $250 and I had one before, change the blade and spend the time to make it cut straight and it's well worth every penny of $250. I only sold it because I didn't have room at the time.
Reply:Congratulations. A bandsaw is so handy. For maximum flexibility I'd likely leave it 120V. You can always find a 120V outlet... 240V outlets are generally more scarce. If your going to set it up in one place than 240V may make sense. Normally you size motor hookups 125% but no more than 200%. 9A * 1.25 = 11.25A... so even if you plug it into a 15A 120V outlet your still well within the margin. If it was a 3/4+ HP I'd likely go to 240V unless it portability was important.
Reply:Fired it up. A little tweak on the tension because it spit the blade a few times and it cuts great. Pretty damn straight by eyeball. Have to go find my square though.I need to make a handle to adjust the downward tension and build a stand. Anyone seen or built any good stands for these? I'm thinking something with a chip catcher also.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Good deal, Here is a real good video on how to tune up a metal band saw, I used it when I pick up a used band saw, helped me to get it cutting straight.

Reply:Here is the stand I made for mine, my first project with a stick welder. Simple 1/4 angle iron, the casters are from homedepo they sell them in the shelving area 4 casters for $20.00 it's a great deal for good casters. I add a lot of dead weight to the bottom to offset the top heaviness of the band saw. I also add a simple pan to caught the chips. The pan slides out and back in when not in use.
Reply:Nice stand, but I'm looking to eliminate the entire bottom half of the saw as those legs suck and when it's open with the added weight of this larger motor it wants to tip overI have had this other bandsaw for a while and I like it a lot. Adjustable speed on the fly, it's great, but it's not a saw I can setup and walk away from. Plus it's hardly a straight cut so I try to only use it on small stuffIt's this overpriced $999 onehttp://www.kooltools.com/bandsaw_ad105s.htmlTorchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

I didn't pay attention to the fact the gear inside is made of brass. Most GL5 rated gear oils are corrosive to yellow metals. When I pulled the cover recently, I discovered the gear is almost completely worn out, and the oil had a nice goldflake color to it. Use a yellow metal safe gear lube, like Penzoil syncromesh or Royal Purple.BTW, Anyone ever order parts for these from Harbor Freight?

Reply:My friend works in a large fabrication shop and he tells me they pump coolant on the blade  for anything and everything they cut, thick and thin on their bandsaws. Ive always pumped coolant through mine when I cut as well on pretty much everything. I know a lot of saws are not set up with coolant pumps so my question is how thick of material warrants pumping coolant would you say?
Reply:Crap, the thing started cutting for **** so I just grabbed a cheap $8 blade from the store and that cut like **** and the blade got all wavy. Looked at things closer and the thing **** a bearing.Any idea on where to get one? Or can I just use a generic cheap one from the hardware store?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:Coolant is for blade longevity so much the thickness of the material. Any material can be cut with or without coolant. Its main function is to keep the teeth cool while somewhat flushing away chips and possibly some lubrication.
