I'm a hobby welder.  Mostly MIG welding with low carbon steels.  I have an old brake pedal from a Jeep I need to swap the pivot on.  I suspect it's cast steel as I can see where the parting lines were ground off.  The original pivot was pressed in and then the portion that protruded on the opposite side was peened.  I ground off only the sides of the peening that retained the piece - leaving about 3/16" still protruding - then drove it out easily with a punch.After swapping sides, I want to basically replace the peening with a weld.  If it is cast steel will it take a weld OK?Any other suggestions or advice would be appreciated.Linked video is a spark test of me grinding one of the parting lines.

Reply:Newbie here, but I would think cast steel would be basically the same alloy and would be low carbon steel.  Just easier to cast an odd shape than to roll it.

Reply:Cast steel can be welded with 7018 , 7014, 6011, 6013 or the solid 70 or flux core 71 series mig wires.
