Miller claims in the specs for their Millermatic 211 MIG welder that it can weld up to 3/8 steel or aluminum.  Miller also claims that as a rule of thumb you need 1 amp per .001" of metal, so based on that for 3/8" you'd need 375 amps.However, the Millermatic 211 is only a 150 amp machine.So realistically, once you remove the marketing bs, what thickness is this machine really capable of welding?
Reply:The formula for amperage selection for low hy smaw electrodes is 1 amp for .001” of electrode diameter.
