I know there are different specifications for overhead lifting. Does this application need a specific chain or will one rated for the combined weight suffice? Attached Images

Reply:Considering the amount of chain wrapped around each side, I doubt it really matters. The chains probably weighs more than the guy and the barrel combined. I guess they figured they needed a "safety" factor. .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:It looks like there is the proper and required electrical isolation in effect...As far as falling out (of the barrel) we don't know if he has a rope around the chain and through a belt loop.Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. Reply:I AM NOT CONDONING THIS OR STATING IT'S SAFE!!!That said, I use 55 gal drums for hauling scrap to the scrap yard all the time. I burn four triangles around the top sides, 12, 3, 6, & 9 o'clock. I use a chain just like they are doing in that pic. And I have lifted ALOT more weight than that guy weighs. He has probably done that and will keep doing that forever and never have a problem. Just sayin....."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:This is what you get when you have people doing what they need to to get a job finished, and people are more concerned about eating than following some BS regulation. Is what he is doing safe? You don't know. All you know is what has been drilled into your head. Would I do it No FING WAY. Judge not till you walk a day in his shoes hungry.
Reply:I thought  belize when I saw the picture. thats were we honeymooned. there is something to be said about people with more balls than brains. And a few more choice words to be said about those with more brains than balls. You do what you gotta do to get the job done. And I'm willing to bet it took them less time to do it than the so called "safe" crews up here. because of all their safety checks and regulations. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
