I inherited this Lincoln a couple years ago from my Uncle who wanted the space back in his shop.  I haven't used it.  It has all the leads, foot pedal and Argon tank.I am now considering letting it go, so I can get the room back in my shop.  Any ideas on its worth?  I am outside Billings, Montana.
Reply:When it comes to worth I always tell people any item is only worth what people are willing to pay.Lincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo.  Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.
Reply:A lot depends on supply/demand in a particular area as well as brand, age and condition.  Not to mention accessories. WAG $1,500. - $1,750.?"USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:I've seen them in the $800 and up range.  I think the highest I've seen is $1500.Although with the way heavy transformer welder prices are going, I wouldn't be surprised to see one at $500.Don't forget to ask the Uncle if he needs it back first Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Replyave that don't forget the uncle first if he needs it back first. Is a very good idea may save a lot of hard feelings.  JohnSent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Reply:Can you demonstrate?  The off kilter cover for the point gap says a C team worker was futzing with it.  Maybe $200 if you are selling a pig in a poke, $500 to $1,000 if it can be demonstrated to be working properly.
Reply:John,I gotta say I'm a little surprised you want to get rid of that machine.   I would think having the ability to TIG weld (especially Aluminum) would be a pretty good addition to your metal fab business.   I can definetly see that machine making you some coin fixing aluminum for your local rural Ag community.   I helped your Uncle get that set up and running at his place after he inherited from another one of your extended family members that as I understood it had a welding supply business in CA.    That machine may be old but I can tell you that it's hardly ever been used.  I'm positive it's never been used in any kind of commercial welding shop / business.   I've stick welded and TIG welded (both DC and AC) with it and can tell you all is well with it.   The only problem we had with it at your Uncles was lack of power to feed it with.   Any time I tried to get it much above 150 amps it would just bog down and kill his generator.  Any way, it's yours to do with as you wish I just thought I ought to caution you not to let some bargain hunter weasel it away from you by running it down and saying it's not worth much.
Reply:Yeah Dave, I have misgivings about letting it go, but the bloody thing is huge!  I have a slug of aluminum that could be welded, but haven't had time to switch up and give it a go.  My other sale-able projects are taking president. I know you have used it and it works well - this is pretty much the machine the boys at NASA put the Space Shuttle together with.  My Dutch Uncle said if I got tired of it, the proceeds would be expected to go into the family cabin account.  Which I am fine with.  Don't need the cash, just have a desire to get that area back!  I see now why he wanted it out of the way at the Pie!I am just toying with the idea currently.  If you get a wild hair and end up down my way give me a holler.  I would like to see you at work with it and that may change my mind.JL
Reply:I think the loss of that welding machine will be missed later down the road.  JohnSent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Replyave,I still need to improve my junction to the current bush.  From what I can see this will pull about 70 amp.  I have 220 power, but only a 30 amp breaker for my arc corner at this juncture.  I will make some improvements and let you know.  We are about to start calving and the kids are still in school.  It may take till summer!

Reply:I hate to admit this, but there isn't a shop class at my kids high school.  They have zero focus on any trade education.  It is a great school, just no focus on that.  So, we weld and work wood at home!
