Does anyone have any experience with both the new inverter m211 and the old transformer 211? I have the old one, great welder but now that I'm picking up jobs I have to lug it around back and forth from Illinois to Missouri and I'm looking to cut down on the weight with the new one but wanting to know how they run with the new inverter. Great welder I just finished a 28' deck over trailer in California with another transformer 211 I just don't consider it very portable and after building that trailer at 102" wide I found out a 10' lead while it "worked" your lead is stretched unless you want to drag your welder to the other side each time you weld. After welding for over 10hrs straight it gets real old real fast.
Reply:I have the transformer and my buddy has the new inverter. Love mine and it welds great. Never a problem except loading and unloading cause itll throw a back out easy. I played with my buddys inverter a little and it welds nice. I think there is a little delay at the beginning once you pull the trigger that threw me off a tad but no problem. It welds great. Uses less watts off a generator also and half the weight. Seems like a good machine, time will see if they hold up as good but aim sure they will.
Reply:By delay at the start, are you referring to weld puddle development or was there a delay in the wire feeding after you pulled the trigger.Both versions of the MM 211 have the Smooth-start run-in delay. Reply:The welder itself is fine I have no problems or gripes with it except maybe leave out the cheesy autoset feature and save some money on both ends but... I'm just looking to really cut weight to haul it around as the jobs are picking up now that I started doing it on the side. I know the reputation a transformer 211 has just wondering if the inverter 211s while newer have presented any foreseeable problems yet as compared to the older counterparts. One possible problem was brought up on an Amazon review from a November 15 machine not sure if the inverters were out then though.
Reply:I think the biggest selling point of the Autoset is to broaden the potential market sales to Hobby time shade tree mechanics like me who wish to weld fairly decent from day one with out having to worry about all the factors that come into play with beginners. I.E. Voltage, WFS, Gun angle, Travel speed, Gas cfh, vdroop, being able to see the puddle, fit up and the list goes on... Auto set can transform a person who has no clue how to weld into some one who takes an interest because they are able to see imediate posative results. Reply:I have a 211 Autoset is handy, but worst case it just allows you to skip looking up two number on chart on the door. But is is handy when welding different thicknesses you don't have to remember 2 number and turn 2 dials, just turn one dial and your set. I haven't played around with manual settings yet, the autoset seems to do a reasonable job given I'm a novice and can't tell the difference yet.One thing I would have preferred is that the dials had IPS and Volts labels rather than a range from 1 to 10.

Reply:I tried the auto set it didn't work the best I understand the point I just don't think it works very well. Aside from that any newcomer can pick up a nice book and go from there and go online and look at stuff or take a couple classes but I do see your point in this day and age we've become so spoiled it's almost like if it's not instant gratification then it was a wasted purchase. Doesn't really matter this wasn't about autoset just wondering how the new 211 performs guy at work is buying mine probably next weekend on a good deal since its got maybe 8 hours on it and I'll be ordering new one and see how it works out then hopefully getting a plasma cutter after.
Reply:I think sometimes it's easier to fine tune with the auto set..Using the door chart you would have to adjust 2 knobs Autoset you just turn one knob one way or the other to get a little less/more heat/wire speedIt's basically a convenience. Reply:Well I ended up selling the welder to a guy at work and bought the new model worth every penny on weight difference alone to me unfortunately I don't even get to test it out till next week... O well I'll throw up some pics if I get any sooner though
