I just purchased a very clean used Miller Syncrowave 200. I am still learning to Tig weld and stuck the tip in the weld puddle. I then removed the electrode, repaired the tip back to a point and now it will not make an ark. It had been working fine. I tried using the Ark welding mode and it works fine. It will not work on AC or DC in Tig mode. The gas starts and stops with the foot pedal. I have tried turning it off and back on with no success, any ideas?
Reply:Have you tried (gently) cleaning and regapping the high frequency points as outlined in the manual?Do you have the settings you want properly set, particularly the HF Start option (I'm assuming you're using HF start with the pedal) and amperage set to remote (pedal)?Do you have a good, clean ground under your work clamp?I sometimes have trouble starting an arc, and when I do, I normally touch the tungsten to the work briefly (with my foot off the pedal) before pulling the tungsten back and starting the arc. It seems to help.Good luck and let us know what's up. Reply:Thanks kelvin, I will try cleaning and regapping the points. The work clamp is good/clean. I'll report back after cleaning the points.
Reply:The points looked clean, I correctly gaped them to .008", No change, i am now going to take it to a local repair shop. Thanks for replying.
Replyid you try touching the tungsten to the work? Have you gone over the machine and all its components to make sure everything is correct? A Syncrowave is a pretty robust machine, I doubt that simply dipping the tungsten once would suddenly cause problems like this.2000 Lincoln SA-2501974 Miller Dial-Arc 250

Reply:Thank you to everyone who responded! I unplugged and examined the connector for the foot pedal, looked fine, reconnected and tried it repeatedly and now it has been working fine?
