Hello, I generally use my Miller 225g as a hobby machine and last time I used it ( a month ago ) the battery  blew the top off and split the battery itself down the side. I was grinding with a side grinder and thought maybe a stray spark ignited the off gassing from the battery charging , UNTIL I put a new battery in it ( cheaper lawn mower battery this time) and I cranked it up and it won't idle down so I have to test the idle solenoid and idle board but I noticed the battery was at 12.8 before cranking and while it was running the battery terminals were showing 17.4 volts !!! Isn't this way to high ? Maybe the regulator went bad and is over charging ?? I didn't want to pop another battery so I shut it down. Any help is greatly appreciated
Reply:I'd say voltage regulator. It's an Onan right?  Seems like a new regulator can be had for $10-$20. Hopefully it didn't take out the idle board, but very possible. Let me see if I can find the regulator #."You can't out puke a buzzard"
