go to see Welding Machine for miller dialarc 250 wont do anything

So I have a miller dialarc 250 stick machine, with power correction factor. I bought this at a school sale under the impression that it works. Well now a few years later I actually have a used for it since I have a garage that is wired for 240. I plugged it and nothing. No hum, obviously no arc, etc. I took the panels off and checked the input wiring, it is at 240, checked the switch , it is reading correctly the circuit breaker has in and out voltage, etc....I cant figure out the issue. Any help??

Reply:No doubt in my mind it's junk. No need to trouble yourself with it, send it to me, I'll scrap it for you, and send scrap value to you. Kidding aside, these things are pretty tough. Unplug it, open it up, give it a good looking over. Then if nothing obvious, download the correct manual, and if you are qualified to test without electrocuting yourself, move through the current path from beginning to end. Reply:I agree with Willie. They are very bulletproof machines. Take the covers off and use a meter to trace it down carefully. I wouldn't be surprised if you find something little that's the issue. If it's an older Dialarc with the spring loaded switch it could be stuck from dust and grime. Reply:So just went out and verified the hots to double check. I have 115 coming in from each hot. I have 20v running thru the circuit breaker, the switch works at 115v each hot. The leads all read about 40v dc and ac (not sure where i had the amperage setting)....

Reply:Make certain you have 230-240 between the hots. Not likely, but if you got two on the same leg, you would see 115 to neutral on each, but zero between them . . .

Reply:If you have the side off you can see where the power enters and goes to the lugs.
