I originally wrote this as a reply to drujinin's post in the weld fail thread on another forum on this site.   I thought maybe some of you guys might have some interesting stories on fixing snow plows so I put it here. Originally Posted by drujininMy neighbor brings me "Snow Plow Trucks" to fix all the time that have welds like some of these shown on here. Reply:I run a rubber cutting edge, so I am numb to the little things that pop up while plowing. A curb is definitely another story, I am glad I never read. But I have box plows I built for my skid steer that get the crap beat out of them. There's always a welding job to be done on those, so I usually just leave them be."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:A couple years ago I had a job repairing a plow used in an apartment complex. It was first taken to the dealer where it was purchased and an estimate of $3400 given. The dealer also estimated it would take up to three weeks to get all the parts.Either nobody on the apartment maintenance staff knew anything about plows, or they just didn't care. They had worn the cutting edge down so far the mounting bolts were half worn through and the edge (what was left of it) was ready to fall off!I told them I would need it for at least a day to reconstruct the lower portion of the plow frame that supports the cutting edge that was destroyed. The total repair bill was a little over $1200 and the apartment complex owner was thrilled I repaired it and ws able to get it back in service just as the next snow was to arrive. It turns out, that repair has resulted in several more repair jobs for the complex.
Reply:Its funny my snowplow story ended up over here!Guess what I did mid-November?YEP!Fixed up a FORD with an F'ed up mounting system.Tires scrubbed the braces.I relocated them using new steel as these were dirty filthy junk.Anyhow he sold the FORD not long after and bought a CHEVY!Or did I tell this story all ready? signed,Losing My Mind!
Reply:I usually have to do at least some welding on our plows every season.Reminds me I need to get off my but and dig out the 9' Fisher for the pickup before the real snow gets here and get some work done on it. Nah... It's more fun when it's raining/ snowing out and it needs to be done yesterday....No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:I am a welder for the DOT and before that spent 11 years at a welding shop that was a BOSS dealer.I can honestly say there is nothing interesting about welding on snowplows.
