We have several cars on our ranch that we need to sell for scrap metal. In order to do this we need to have the cars cut in half. Any ideas on the best way to cut the cars in half? Has anybody ever done this and have tips?

Reply:We can get one cut in half in about 10 min at the fire house with 3 of us on tools LOL. Air chisels work awesome for single layer sheet metal.

Reply:You guys are doing it all wrong. You need a fingernail file. The one that's attached to fingernail clippers works the best. Reply:Not sure where you are located but here in the county will send a dude out that will tag up to 5 cars for hulk disposal and provide paperwork required to scrap even if you lost the title. I generally use a sawzall. If you decide to use a torch... make sure you keep an eye on it. Years ago I was cutting an upside down car and the sparks fell into the dash... caught the car on fire and burned like crazy... once it got going.,. no amount of throwing dirt on it would slow it down.... it even took off all the paint. Scared me for sure.The hulk haulers often can do the paper work for you. A hauler come by last year and I sold a wreck I'd acquired but never got the title. He gave me $150 bucks and I have more space.
Replyast week I helped cut up a S10 parts truck.  Sawsall for the sheetmetal, bolt cutters for misc hoses, lines and harness and a torch for the frame.  In CT a title is needed for a whole vehicle.

Reply:I have done it witha  sawzall I have a stihl demo saw and I am not a fan of using that on a car pretty kills my back after 10 mintues and the kick back is kinda sketchy. A nice sawzall and the milwaukee 9" rescue blades are the bomb.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.

Reply:Call your local fire dept and let them do a jaws training, just tell them to leave the cars cut in half when they are done.  If they don't want to do it, a sawzwall with a bimetal blade will cut just about any car in half in minutes. On my fire dept We use a cordless sawzall for exrication as much as we use jaws, or when the car is to far off a cliff to get a jaws set to.

Reply:Billy Mays and his British buddy used to hawk the Dual Saw (4" counterrotating carbide blades) in infomercials on TV.  One of their ads showed a guy cutting a car in half while they were doing the ad.  Those things are selling at Costco and Harbor Freight for well under $100.

Reply:I used to part out and cut up cars and trucks all the time. I just used a sawzal. Body, frame, lines, everything with the sawzal and only took a few minutes.
Reply:My Volunteer Fire Department takes donated vehicles and does extrication practice on them as well. We will chop them up into pieces with the hurst cutters and sawsalls with bi-metal blades and then hand all the remains back to the owner. If you have a trailer, to get the cars to the FD, then go with that plan first. Work smarter not harder!
