This is our seal coat truck for seal coating asphalt. The rear seal was leaking. The back side of the sprocket. The worn out 4 bolt flange bearing. Ouch, how to get it off?Well after an hour of prying and beating, I tell the boss we need to get a puller. He says, yeah you need one, let me go get it. Anyhow, he borrowed this hydraulic puller set which worked awesome. This is definitely on my long list. The actual rubber seal and press plate."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:The sprocket was a PITA to get off. So, I made a puller for next time.To my surprise, the holes drilled VERY easily. Must be soft steel, the drill bits went thru like a hot knife in butter. I drilled them in three steps with the final being 7/8" My bolts on the puller are 3/4". And note the "dime", next to the hole.New bearing and rubber seal. EVERYTHING gets mucho anti-sieze.Inserting the key into the keyway. Last edited by Stick-man; 01-22-2013 at 09:55 PM."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Finished! Also, this is the first time I've seen a chain with a master link that had two cotter pins. I've only worked on bike size chains, with the "U" clip. I enjoyed this project because I never did one like it. And with the help from a friend, via text, I came out looking like I knew my $hit!!!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Usually we end up using the Smith "puller" and worry about the fires. The cutter pin links are nice usually done see them till size 60 or so. Reply:Nice repair. Good job on the homemade puller.
Reply:Nice Work ! If you get bored I'll call you come help put 2- 10 foot long #100HD chains in Galion motor grader drive axles. 2 per side. 2nd week in Feb. pulling drive hubs replace brake wheel cylinders. 3-1/2" nut holds wheel hubs on with a tapered shaft 1" keyed slot. If you get chance get grease gun hose thread in bearing grease zerk hole tack weld clip and retainer of some type. Put pipe coupler on other end weld coupler to clip put grease zerk in and grease bearing.
Reply:I would LOVE to visit TX.Actually, the grease zerk is very accessible. I already greased it, while it was turning. There is, I would guess without measuring, 3" to 4" between the sprocket and the tank."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!!
