I'm hoping there are some elderly welders on this site. I'm trying to determine just how old my old welder is. I inherited it from my Dad who passed away a few years ago. He had it when I was a little boy around 6 yrs. old and I'm now 53. Here's the info on the front of it.Airco 180 Ampere A.C. MSMBusybee Transformer welder1.8 ADT-2-AIt's giving me trouble and I'm not sure it's worth repairing but the sentimental aspect is making my decision hard. Please give me any and all the info available. Thanks.

Reply:1961! A great year. This means my Dad bought this machine the year I was born are soon after. I guess I have to repair it. The on / off switch just stopped working. At least it's broke in the on position so I'm just using the multi breakers for now. Thanks for the web links. They were very helpful.
Reply:I think that model of welder was first available around 1958 or 59 from what I can gather."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

oesn't sound like an expensive repair if everything else is working good. I think I changed one of those switches in a buzz box for under $30. If you've got old and dependable, I'd fix it. Somehow new and dependable is becoming a rare commodity.250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes
