I was nosing around Harbor Freight, looking for a block and tackle.  Found what I was looking  for, but while I was nosing around, I started looking at the tool chests.  Most of them were junk, but I saw an industrial quality unit with 11 drawers for $799.  The unit looked solid, the castors heavy duty, and the drawers solid.  For Harbor Freight, it was pretty impressive.Does anyone know if it's possible to get a discount on these?  The 20% off coupon doesn't apply to tool chests. Reply:No they stopped letting you use the 20% off coupon on welders, toolboxes and other big or pricey items. Reply:what could it hurt to ask the store manager to knock something off the price because it is a "shop worn" display model?  Maybe the keys to the lock were lost, somebody scratched it, etc.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:HF has really stepped up with their top of the line tool boxes...the one you are looking at is really nice! Reply:Glad I stopped by and read this post; will save me from driving up to HF.  They have doubled the size of their store here but the number of items they carry seems to have plummeted.  HF was always the first place to look, depending on the item, but now it seems a trip there is a waste of my time, of which I have plenty.  I did send in comments on the reduction in items carried....hope they go back to earlier times.  A large rolling tool box was on my shopping list too!
Reply:I have the wide top chest from HF. Looking to buy the bottom cabinet when they go on sale again. I am also a ITC member and check the ads weekly. I get my tax returns back soon, and I plan to buy a gift card for the price of the bottom chest so I won't spend the money on anything else.As far a quality and price. Can't be beat! I looked at Craftsman and many others before I bought my top chest. I LOVE IT! Solid construction. They even come with tray liners. Problem is I ran out of room and need the bottom half to put the rest of my **** in.

Reply:sometimes, it never hurts to ask.  When I bought my dual mig 171, I had the 20% coupon in my pocket.  I put it out and asked if I could use it.  The guy behind the counter said sure, but when he scanned it, it wouldn't work - because it says you can't use it on welders.  So anyway, he types in his code and gives me the 20% off anyway.  It may help that I usually stop by the store about once a week to browse and I talk with the guys there - mostly HS kids with after school jobs building their tool supply as well... but like I said, never hurts to ask.  Most of them don't care anyway.edit; any I did look at that $799 - 11 drawer box and was impressed with it too.  I couldn't believe the roller bearings, how thick the material the drawers were made of, and the casters.  If I had the money, I'd get the box, seems like a better deal than some of the recent waterloo boxes I've looked at.Last edited by empire designs; 03-04-2012 at 10:36 PM.
