don't know exactly what they are called but, curious if anybody wants to show something they made or use to steady their arms and hands while welding. It's kinda like shooting pool without using a bridge....can be done, but....
Reply:I use aluminum blocks, wood 4x4, anything that will provide the support you need for a given weld, some have made adjustable standsusing round tube/pipe or square tubing. There are some for sale but it's so easy to make whatever works. Google imagesRichardWest coast of Florida
Reply:Jody (weldingtipsandtricks) calls them "props", they prop your hand, I want to prop my hand anytime I can (especially w/Tig).No Shame, the Steadier the Better

Reply:When welding pipe overhead, toss the stinger over the pipe and make a half hitch using the cable. Set your arm inside and adjust to fit. As mentioned, use anything for support when on bench or table. An adjustable welding stand will work too. Depending on the configuration of what your welding, just tack a piece of steel to it. Rebar works well too.
Reply:C-clamps, magnets, whatever works in a particular situation. Just don't get magnets too close to the weld.
Reply:i agree, its like pool.     what type of welding u doin?     in the long run, ur better practicing w/o any rests .    i still cheat when i tig when i can, and probaably always will
Reply:thanks for replies....I'm just hobbyist with mig and stick...for now. I don't mind using a crutch if it makes my welding better sooner
