Im not far off needing to get a bit more serious about my grinder setup and in the long run im probably going to get a few for different tasks but at first Ive been wondering about whether I should spend the money and get one of the adjustable speed INOX ones. Just wanting to know what people think of them? Ill either be buying Fein or Metabo as for some models Fein is cheaper and for others Metabo is. I can see the advantage but I want some real world opinions before I go opening the wallet.Gear: Esab power compact 205 with tbi industries torch BOC Smootharc 185dc tig Miller Syncrowave 350LX

Reply:Sorry guys. Brands are coming out with angle grinders advertised as INOX. Designed around stainless steel work but can be used in anything. They allow you to select different RPM speeds. https://www.powertoolpeople.co.nz/pr...-angle-grinder
Reply:That is the motor on belt grinder. ItIs about 5 years old. It is crazy powerful. I Never change rpm’s. IDont like heavy grinders. It is used mounted and my metabo sits unused.

Reply:I have several Metabo grinders 1 of which is INOX. I have nothing but good things to say about them. The difference with INOX I believe is they operate at lower RPM and they are more torque associated with that RPM. Variable speed is awesome to have on any grinder. if you have a limited budget I would just get the regular variable speed metabo. I don't think you would notice a difference.
Reply:I agree about being good on wire wheel. Nothing wrong with being adjustable. I been up and down the grinder road and worried we might not see the one we settled on for most of the work. At the price, life power this is about as good as any I ever use. I mean,,, its great to think,,, I will buy a 150 grinder so I can fix it in 5 years or run the snot out of this 30$ one and toss it. Its pretty good,,, I like a paddle a little better but get used to it, the cord lasts, got good power, all a guy can use for any time out of position. I use often,,, not a lot if that makes sense, On occasion I burn a wheel or 2 off but they can go a long way with light zings. I use a grinder 10 times yesterday, probably couple minutes total.

Reply:What do you plan on grinding? I cannot see the benefit in the expense if it is a general use grinder with variable speed. If for nonferrous stuff… you might find yourself needing plate or tube finishing tool more than a variable speed angle grinder.

Im building a new welding table right now and Ive already spend well over $1000 and its pretty average sized table. I did buy the inch thick plate for the top from an oil and gas surplus place so got a huge discount on that but still over $550USD.
Reply:Yeah I know a lot of people get stuff from scrap yards, but here in New Zealand scrap isnt exactly organised and they also dont generally resell and most of it is going away to be melted down but I was scouring an online auction site (our equivalent of ebay) and found this oil and gas surplus place a couple of hours from me. Most of what they have is absolutely gigantic but there are some bargains to be had if you look hard enough. What they sell is to big for most people most of their surplus plate is inches thick and lots of feet wide and long.

Reply:I have one of the variable speed Metabo Inox grinders I bought to finish stainless steel. It is very well built.I also have a Hitachi brushless variable speed grinder I bought on sale as a clearance item. The model number of the Hitachi is HPT-G12VEM.To compare the two, the Metabo is quite a bit larger in diameter and heavier. It also has more power. The Hitachi is more comfortable to hold for extended times since it is lighter and smaller in diameter. I bought a bunch of Metabos at an auction. I have changed out the brushes on several of the Metabos and they are still working after quite a few years. I try to use the Hitachi only as needed on stainless so can't comment on the longevity.
