Im new here and found this website this evening and figured I would sign up and ask if anyone can assist.I attached some pics that shows the model, as well as the starter I removed. The starter is shot so trying to locate something that will closely match what came with the machine, when it was built. The current starter apparently came off an old Ford tractor.Any assistance is appreciated.John

Reply:Using the term "Hitachi" and the only number I could make out clearly, "D9NN", the best find I got was here:https://www.maniacelectricmotors.com/12vhistforfo.htmlIn the cross reference box below, that number goes to Ford, not Hitachi, but that starter might still be worth checking for being correct. If I were you, I'd use the code number to look for a manual on the Lincoln site and see if it had part numbers listed. Or, using the brand and engine model, do an internet search. Lastly, try repairing the crumpled area of the starter's label so you can read the earlier designation or number there and do further internet searching.Or,,,,,wait for a member here who knows that unit and can give you more direct information.
Reply:My bet is a Delco starter with a 3 bolt flange mount very much like my old 1970 Chevy C-50 used.

Reply:I'm not sure how much help I'm going to be, but I decoded the serial number and came up with a 1956 mfg date. Then I looked up "1956 SAE 300" and found a manual for that year and it said it had a "General Motors Diesel 141CI 2 Cylinder 2 Stroke" - so that's a 2-71 Detroit Diesel. Take an "overall view" kinda picture of the engine if you get a chance. Seems like those Detroit starters are a little pricey. Guess it's 'cause they're for "industrial" use? No clue. You might want to get in touch with a shop and see if they can rebuild that starter. I mean, it isn't the correct starter, but it ain't wrong if it works.
