Howdy all first post here. Just getting into stick welding and I bought myself a Lincoln AC225 tombstone welder new from Lowes. Also got myself a Duromax 13000 starting /10500 running watt generator. With this set up so far I have ran 1/16” 6013, at 40-90 amps on 1/8” up to 3/16” plate. Runs great getting good running that rod. Wanted to try 1/8” 6011, and sticks alot more. Running this at 135 amps on 3/16” plate. The 1/8” 6011 bogs down the generator a little bit more than the 1/16”, and the breaker cut a few times. The generator has a 50 amp breaker, confused as to why it keeps tripping at around 1/2 the welders max output (225 amps). Is my arc length too short, causing it to stick and trip, also I realized that the duty cycle is only 20%. Thinking I just need to let it cool down a bit. As what ive read and seen, people use a 225 on smaller generators than mine with no problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Reply:A couple things come to mind...  It looks like it has an idle-down circuit.  Can you make it run at full speed before you strike an arc?If you are running on Propane you lose just a little bit of power. Are you using an extension cord? If you are try plugging into the genny directlyMillerMatic 252, HTP 221 w/cooler, Hypertherm PM45, Lincoln IdealArc 250 AC/DC"I'd like to believe as many true things and as few false things as possible"
Reply:Stick welding I would use 9,000 watt or larger generator. A small 120 volt Mig you can use a 3,000 watt generator. Dave

Reply:Yes always running at full speed. Also I just made an 1 foot adapter out of 6/3 because the gen has a nema 14-50 style plug and the ac225 a nema 6-50. I use the gas version because I wanted the extra power.

Reply:I have read and seen many people use smaller gens than the one I bought, leading me to this one. Just confused as also I am new to welding.
Reply:Lincoln recommends a minimum of a 15kw generator for that unit.Miller Multimatic 255
