Was watching some welding videos last night on YouTube and saw an ad with this welding setup.I can't find anything on a price yet, but the welding they show in the video may be a game changer for some industries if they become affordable, especially where sheet metal is used. Is this our future?Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Reply:Laser welding/cutting has been in industrial use since the 1980's. Mostly reserverd for CNC set ups with multiple repetitions. I was involved with setting up a PRC(CO2) laser for an Air Bag company at on old Cessna factory in Boonton NJ . I'm sure they've made improvements, and cost savings on the laser, and fiber optics. We had trouble getting a consistent weld with the stainless can on the inflater module being reflective. Some of the  welds were done with miller pulsed tig power supply that got hooked up to a "286" powered PC. The biggest challenge was to not detonate the propellant from the heat of the weld soaking into the inflator module which was stainless. During the first trials with the tig alone, we would weld the module , and then wait 10 minutes to see if the module detonated oops the correct term at the time was "deployed"(many did). Laser welds were chosen for the lowest overall heat input of all processes. It was required that the device be completely sealed. They didn't want people to be able to easily cut open the module and extract the propellant(sodium azide). Welds were checked/qualified by (on empty units) cut polish etch, as well as what they called "hydroburst" test. There are many industrial uses for Lasers, but there is a cost. If you are involved in medical, or food grade manufacturing I think you may be seeing more of these. It used to be that automation, and specialty processes  weren't cost effictive until the quantities were in the millions. Now with the price of automation dropping, the return on investment is now in the 100-1000 quantity. No, I don't think we'll  be replaced by robots anytime soonI don't think will be seeing these at tractor supply any time soon either. Then again, they have one(laser) on TV that's hooked up to a smallCNC table called "glowforge"? , the 21st century version of woodburning/leather craft. Reply:Reminds me of this bit from one of Dave Barry's humorous newspaper columns:In the past decade, scientists have developed the laser, an electronic device so powerful that it can vaporize a bulldozer at 2000 yards, yet so precise that doctors can use it to perform delicate operations on the human eyeball, provided they remember to change the power setting from "bulldozer" to "eyeball". Reply:Eyepress Fachmedien GmbH is a publisher of Optoelectronics, and IPG Photonics is a manufacturer of fiber lasers, which is the most part of laser cutting machine and laser welding machine. If you want to know more about laser welding or cutting, you can have a look at professional laser welding machine manufacturers, please noted that our web can work as usual after 1 month as it is being upgraded.Jory Email:[email protected] Tel: +86757-86480650 FOSHAN MEGREZ LASER TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.No.58 Guidan Xi Road, Danzao Town, Nanhai District, Foshan City, GuangDong Province, China.
