Old but not useless said:1 Day AgoSa200 not weldingBought a used 70ish sa200 blackface, not welding- original owner said it might just need to be flashed. Well not the case exactly.I did flash the exciter which got auxiliary plug working but no weld still. So I started checking everything outExciter read 135 ohms after market by the looksPlug was reading 121vdcRehostat checked outStoned both commutatorsDid the water trick on brushes, no wild or green arcingFinally got to the main shunt coils read open tore housing apart to find lower left was openNew coils pressed In, ohmed goodNow everything is back together but..... still no weld arc--- have not reflashed wasnt sure if necessary if I'm still getting 120vdc at plug.Reading only 30vdc on welding lugsMain shunt coils still ohm goodSuffice to say I'm lost
Reply:Look at Weldmarts site as they have a trouble shooting guide, look at the technical section. If the excitor is reading 120vdc then it is working. Then the main generator is reading 30vdc it could be you have a bad connector or a dirty connection. Check and clean the selector switch and all connections. Check the rheostat with a meter and all the connections to it.These are simple machine, but I have gotten confused with all the wires at times. labeling and color coding wires sure helps.Check for stuck brushes on main generator. Have had this bite me, was just looking at them and not actually moving them manually. When I tried to move them is when figured one was stuck.Last edited by guajilloweld03; 16 Hours Ago at 11:25 AM. |
