New to this site. Recently acquired an SA300 with a seized engine. Only had it a week and been soaking it in a combo of diesel fuel and acetone. Most say that may take months to make any headway. Is there anything out there better and quicker. It is solidly seized but I knew that when I got it.It is a gasoline engine with what I believe to be the F244 Continental.
Reply:You're going to want to hone the bores and probably replace the rings anyway at the minimum, so I'd consider separating the engine from the welding generator and then dropping the crank out of it.  It's possible that only a couple of your pistons are actually seized.  Much easier to get a couple stuck pistons moving when you're not also trying to turn the mass of the rest of the engine as well as the welding generator.  Then either your diesel/acetone combo or Marvel Mystery Oil in the bores, let it sit for awhile, tap with wood block, try again in a couple days. Not saying it's the only way, but that's what I'd try if I were in a hurry.
Reply:It takes time for diesel fuel to get rust. A hot summer works faster.I have use a spark plug hole and put air pressure and let sit will speed it up. Dave

Reply:id get a gallon of pb blaster, and hook my siphoner nozzle  to my blow guns end, and spary some in theree every couple days.      that pb blaster crawls like crazy.        any more effort than that, id have to ask myself is  it worth it at gas at 5 bucks gal and only gonna climb.           i mean if 80% of ur work is 3/32 and 1/8 rod,  how economical is it.Last edited by 123weld; 1 Week Ago at 07:59 PM.
Reply:Put a Kats tank heater on it and circulate hot water in the block while it is soaking
Reply:Put one hose on the bottom and go into the water jacket on the head fill it back up with water and anti freeze and plug it in
Reply:Been through all these suggestions on a flathead six. In the end I had to pull the head off and clean out the carbon. It's the carbon that holds the moisture and starts the rust that causes the problem. Clean it up, keep soaking it in any oil concoction of your choice (acetone and ATF is good but stinks, PB blaster and Fluid Film are almost equally smelly, but also work... Marvel Mystery Oil is probably the least offensive, but the real need is for a thin lubricant.) If the breaker bar on the crank still won't turn it, round off the corners of a square block and "carefully" start tapping the piston tops. You can break the top ring support if you tip on an edge. I have a Continental engine out of a 23 Moon here that proved to be impossible to unstick. It soaked for 5 years and the BFH on a piston still wouldn't budge it with heat , but it did stay out in the bush for 60 years with no plugs. The ones I have managed to unstick with this method were 40's and 50's cars. The big question is, did it seize from sitting, or did somebody run it out of oil? I'm sure it was "running when parked..."Last edited by whtbaron; 1 Week Ago at 09:52 PM.The harder you fall, the higher you bounce...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes
