What uses have you found for an Ultrasonic cleaner in your shop?

Thinking of getting one off Amazon.  Not sure how useful it would be.  Will it clean oil and grease off of parts completely so they can be welded?With the appropriate chemicals will it remove mill scale, corrosion, paint?The first use will be cleaning carbs and chainsaw parts.  Also have bunch of things around the house that have lime buildup: faucets, sink strainers, pet bowls, etc.  Is it safe for gun parts?Century buzzbox that I learned on 40+ years ago (was Dad's)Crappy Century 110volt mig 70 amp pigeon pooper.Lincoln Idealarc TIG-300

Reply:The contamination and base material help to decide what solution to use for cleaning.We have two ultra sonic cleaners here at work that I was using this week.I use a vinegar solution to remove some corrosion from items and also a simple green solution on other items.The first pic is kind of a before and after of some brass items in the vinegar. I also then rinse and do quick wire wheel.The big cleaner in the third pic has a heater. That will make it faster but cost more.Vinegar will remove mill scale and rust in steel but don't use it on other metals.

Reply:I own several commercial grade units. They are great, especially on carbs and gun parts.As others have mentioned using the right solution is key.Beware of the cheap ones. They don’t do that great of a job.
