Miller had a webinar on aluminum cleaning/preparation called Miller Shop Talk LIVE: Aluminum Series, Material Preparation with a Miller welding engineer and a Miller TIG department manager. In watching it I saw the only chemical cleaning solution they recommended was a product called LPS Zero Tri.Ive never heard of this product and found that sourcing it was very difficult and that its very expensive ($1.00 an ounce) compared to other Aluminum cleaning products like acetone (.18¢ an ounce) for aluminum TIG welding preparation. They referenced issues with using acetone (and other cleaners like Isopropyl alcohol) but didnt mention that LPS Zero Tri is 40% acetone (plus 40% Heptane, and 30% Methylcyclohexane per MSDS) and that using LPS ZeroTri has some serious issues, like its highly flammable, causes serious eye, skin and breathing irritation and use only in well ventilated areas. When I couldnt find any welding references to cleaning aluminum with LPS ZeroTri I looked deeper and after so many layers I found LPS is owned by ITW which also owns Miller. So Miller almost suckered me into buying their overpriced (and not any safer) product, but the fault is on me in trusting them to give unbiased and honest information (it will be my last).Everlast 205si
