Soldering question.

I have welded all my life, just never had a need for soldering. Except a wire or two. I found some copper clad sticks about 20 inches long and dont know exactely what they are really used for, thought some of you might shed some light my way. It says HARRIS-5 on it thanks . Do I need some kind of flux?
