Cast Iron Plant Stand Repair

Someone in my friend John’s church knocked over a plant stand and broke off one of the legs.1. Broken leg

In this picture you can see that this leg was brazed in the past. On the right side of the brazed joint, it looks like there may have been an adhesion problem with the braze.2. Close up of break

I supported the stand and located the bottom of the leg, but I allowed freedom of movement of the leg, when the leg and base were heated due to welding.3. Fixtured for brazing

I do have the can of brazing flux, but I prefer to use the coated brazing rods.  I purchased these rods at Lowes.5. Coated brazing rods

Reply:I didn’t bother to preheat the part because the leg was free to expand and contract6. Brazed and sanded
