I finished this today. I needed to make a couple pipe straps out of 16 gauge to hold 1/2" OD pipe. I was surprised how easily the metal bent. I thought I would have to clamp it in a vise, but it bent easily without the vise. The result isn't perfect, but it got me close. Something to hold the material from bulging out away from the pivot pin is needed as well as something to push the material in more to close the loop.
Reply:What would happen IF you moved your clamping pin closer to the pivot point?
Reply:Well, the pin is welded in place. But I have a lathe, so I figured I could make a bushing to go around that pin that will get me closer. Also, had I thought ahead I would have made the base much longer, on the right side, so I could mount some kind of clamping thing like the universal benders I've seen on Amazon.

Reply:Nice!Mill a few holes and some jackets to adjust pin diameter and you'll have a ton of a adjustability.This is the basic type of bender that has been around forever, and in many different configurations because it is so useful. You can even make scroll dies. The evolution is Basically a hossfeld type bender, and it's little brothers like the manual metal bender from harbor freight.
