I am interested in the precision gouging capability, specifically for spot weld removal with sheet steel.   Researching it on Hypertherm's website implies only the 45XP supports precision grinding.  However when I look at the requirements (10 to 25 amps) and the torch required (30XP and 45XP seem to have the same torch), it seems like the 30XP should be able to pull off precision grinding using those consumables.   Is this a mistake on the website, or am I missing something? Thanks!

Reply:The 45XP and the 30XP are completely different torch designs. The 45 XP also has the ability to operate as low as 10 amps, with a special cut air flow mode for gouging, as well as a specially designed gouging nozzle (completely different energy density and arc velocity as compared to cutting.   Best regards, Jim Colt    Hypertherm

Reply:Ugh... 45XP is WAY overkill for what I need.   Any chance Hypertherm is considering extending the 30XP capabilities?   My old Hypertherm 380 continues to get the job done, but I really like the idea of the spot weld removal feature of the 45XP.
Reply:There are no plans to upgrade the Powermax30XP in the near future....it has only been on the market for about 2-1/2 years.....probably has another 7 or so before it needs updating.   Jim Colt    Hypertherm
